A Different Type of Worship: Rend Collective Experiment

As a worship leader I am constantly listening to worship music. Sometimes you come across a group doing something a little different and that was the case when I crossed paths with Rend Collective Experiment. They have a little tagline to their music: Homemade Worship by Handmade People. The tagline is truly reflective of their style. They have five solid members to the core of the group but they will play with anyone wanting to connect to God on a deeper level. Their goal is to have an authentic worship, something that is a real, honest connection with God. They call it Organic worship.   We want to create an environment for people to have genuine encounters with Him and to find themselves singing to Him in ways that they find real” Gareth. This is something that connected with me, as a leader I want people to connect to God on a deeper level.

We recently played Second Chances as a worship song at Valley Church. The songs is about how God's grace is amazing and he gives us endless second chances. Scripturally this is backed up by Hebrews 4:16; Psalm 145:8; Ephesians 2:4-9.

Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. (Hebrews 4:16 ESV)

The LORD is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. (Psalm 145:8 ESV)

But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.   (Ephesians 2:4-9 ESV)

We don't deserve second chances but God is full of grace.

Second Chance:

My future hangs on this
You make preciousness from dust
Please don't stop creating me

Your blood offers the chance
To rewind to innocence
Reborn, perfect as a child

Oh Your cross, it changes everything
There my world begins again with You
Oh Your cross, it's where my hope restarts
A second chance is Heaven's heart

When sin and ugliness
Collide with redemption's kiss
Beauty awakens by romance

Always inside this mess
I have found forgiveness
Mercy as infinite as You

Countless second chances
We've been given at the cross
Countless second chances
We've been given at the cross

Fragments of brokenness
Salvaged by the art of grace
You craft life from our mistakes

Black skies of my regrets
Outshone by this kindness
New life dawns over my soul
