Best rock and pop rock songs of the 90's

We had dinner recently with our pastor and we started talking about music from the 80's, which gave me the thought "What was the best rock songs of the 90's". The more I thought about it, I believed that I need to come up with some ground rules. The first of which is rock songs, which means songs like Killing me Softly by the Fugues, I Will Always Love You by Whitney Houston, Changes by Tupuc don't qualify. All three songs are great by the way, with Changes competing in the top ten. Next rule the list can't have more than two songs by the same artist or else this list would be the best of the Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Pearl Jam. We can easily agree that these were some of the best bands of the 90's.

The other thing that leads to this is we need music for our vacation while I drive so I can sing along. So my first thought to do is create a list of songs from the 90's to pick off of. Then I cried because the list of songs was overwhelming (not really but it would make for a good dramatic story) , I came up with a list of over 150 songs that I needed to widdle down to 70 minutes for the car ride. So I decided to change one of the earlier rules to only one song per artist. To do this I also wanted to avoid some of the more obvious choices like "Smells like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana, which most people would agree is one of the greatest songs of the 90's.

So I got the list down to 38 songs in no particular order and all of these songs were from the 90s, you can check if you like.
