Ice Cream Heaven

Sooo awesome!!!!!!!
For Christmas I got many gifts and one that I wasn't the biggest fan I returned to Kohl's. At the time I didn't find anything that I wanted to exchange it for. They gave me part cash and part gift card. Months later the greatest gift arrived...an ice cream maker. To you this may not be a huge deal but for me and my love of making food this couldn't have been a better gift.

Why this is awesome we need to look back a number of years. When we lived in Vermont I would frequent the Kohl's clearance sections to find some good finds. I had purchased an ice cream maker that was a display model for eight dollars. It was the best eight dollars that I have ever spent, until it broke when we moved to South Hadley. I have missed it; it was always fun to make ice cream and always very tasty.

Fast forward to last week, I stopped at Kohl’s on my way to a worship night since I was running early and was going to drive by there. Well, low and behold this Kohl's had not just one but two ice cream makers and one were still in the box. The sale price, plus a 30% off coupon and my gift card made the ice cream maker $2.03. The machine was worth $79.99 and was still in the box.

This past weekend I washed it, froze it and made an excellent ice cream. The ice cream was a basic vanilla ice cream that I added chocolate chips and caramel to it. It is divine and I can't wait to make more types. I have so many recipes that I have collected from the past few years; maybe you'll be lucky enough to try some.

Vanilla Ice Cream with Caramel & Chocolate Chips

1 cup whole milk
pinch of salt
3/4 cup of sugar
2 cups of heavy cream
1 tablespoon vanilla

Mix first three ingredients together until sugar has dissolved. Then mix in heavy cream and vanilla. I used a hand mixer. Let it chill for at least two hours and then follow the directions.

During the last 5 to 10 minutes add chocolate chips and caramel sauce.

Base recipe is from Cuisinart, the maker of the ice cream maker.
