Cookie Making with Mini Me

The other week my 4-year-old declared he wanted to make cookies. The natural follow-up was, What kind of cookies do you want to make? His reaction M&M's of course. At first, he wanted to make them using his Peanut M&M's but we got the mini m&m's to make them. I've tried and my wife has tried to make cookies with Callum, not always successful but this time was different. I don't know, was it his age, was it the fact that he got a good night's rest and had good quite room time or that he really wanted to do.

One of the great things about making cookies is how easy it is to embed math into it. We were talking about halves and wholes, and practicing our counting through how many cookies on a tray. It was great baking with him. I had him dumping and measuring and operating the power appliances. The only thing he didn't do was put the trays in the oven, his arms are too short.

The cookies themselves came out great, soft, chewy and the right amount of melt in your mouth M&M's.
